OK, so your suggestion for me to go to Lucca was not just a spur of the moment thought or idea. It was a considered and experienced voice guiding me to a place of soul and culture.
As Bob as my witness. I shall be in Lucca within a few weeks.

I believe you have perfectly summarized an entire philosophy. In your minimalist view of the virtue of less personal enterprise, how does beer influence the dilineation between between the two propositions?

I guess my experience is the opposite - my mother and father have been selfless in giving to me... and are so hard to get anything for. That might sound stupid... but whenever I got them anything, it was unused. I am sure it was loved for the love behind it, but they sit unused. Perhaps I don't know what to give them... but in a way I have tried so many types of gifts.

Now with photography, I feel maybe one day I can give them something really personal. Maybe I am trying to replace my love with material objects. Maybe I fear the inevitable and hence hold back my love... who knows

beautifully told, chris. It's funny, we have a bit in common you and I. Every point of your story reverberated - although my eye trouble came in my late teens - but nonetheless, the characters, events and emotions, all there.

thanks for sharing it.
